Index Network Drives

Yes, the X1 Professional Client includes the ability to index network drives. Select network drives for indexing by following the steps below:

1. Navigate to Tools > Options > Files > Select Files to Scan

There are two methods of adding network drives for indexing (the first option is preferred):

1. We recommend that you index network drives by entering the UNC path to the share. Enter the path in the "Add Network path" field using the format \\servername\sharename, then click "OK".

Expand the newly added path and choose which folders you would like to index.

2. You can also index network drives using mapped drive letters. The mapped drives will be listed in the "Choose A Folder:" section and marked with a red "X". Expand the newly added path and choose which folders you would like to index.
Review the following Knowledge Base article for help with configuring which directories (i.e. folders) you choose to index:  http://tinyurl.com/x1-kb-more-indexing-options

Please Note: We suggest you maintain an index no greater than 2 million items, or up to 12 GB worth of data in order to avoid system performance issues. In addition, be mindful of how much information you add from network drives as indexing all at once may over-burden the index.
