Run ScanPST to Fix Email Indexing Problems

In some cases, you may find that X1 is unable to index certain PST or Outlook message stores on your system. These types of issues can sometimes be fixed by running Microsoft's utility for finding and repairing errors found in PST files. Here are the steps for running SCANPST:

1. Close X1 (using the File > Exit command) and Outlook -- make sure there are no X1 or Outlook tasks running in the Task Manager

2. The Scanpst.exe file is typically located in one of the following folders:

  • disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
  • disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
  • disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
  • disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
  • disk drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
  • disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12
  • disk drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
  • disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

3. Double-click to execute the Scanpst.exe

4. Locate and scan your PST files

5. If any errors are found, allow Scanpst to fix them

Please Note: We have seen cases where this utility needed to be run a few times to catch some PST corruption. You should then add back your PST files to X1 one at a time.

Adding the same PST file through both Outlook AND X1 directly may create conflicts
