X1 Search 8 is not indexing my Outlook email and PST files correctly

Occasionally X1 Search 8 is unable to index certain Outlook message stores or PST files, due to corruption in the Outlook message stores or PST files. Outlook often runs smoothly with damaged database files that cause issues in other software. So, just because there doesn't appear to be an issue with Outlook, does not mean that your database files do not need repair.

You can repair damaged Outlook message stores or PST files by running Microsoft's SCANPST utility.

To run SCANPST, please follow the steps below: 

  1. Close X1 using Menu > Exit

  2. Close Outlook -- make sure there are no X1 or Outlook tasks running in the Task Manager

  3. Locate the Scanpst.exe file, which is typically located in one of the following folders: 
    • disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
    •  disk drive:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
    •  disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\System\Mapi\1033\
    • disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033
    • disk drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office12
    •  disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office12
    • disk drive:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14
    • disk drive:\Program Files(x86)\Microsoft Office\Office14

  4. Double-click on Scanpst.exe 

  5. Locate and scan your PST files 

  6. If any errors are found, allow Scanpst to fix them 


Please note: You should continue to run ScanPST or ScanOST until a scan completes without locating errors.
