Lost Indexes and other Index Anomalies

We have seen a handful of reports regarding lost indexes and other index anomalies that tie back to the interference from backup tools and solutions such as Carbonite, CrashPlan, and others. These products can grab hold of the X1 Search index files when X1 needs them and block our access to them. If that happens, the following may occur:

  • X1 Search assumes it has lost the index files and starts to rebuild the indexes at its first opportunity.
  • X1 Search will attempt to update the indexes and will get stuck during the indexing phase. You may notice the indexing percentage not moving.
  • X1 Search will show an index last update on a particular date each time you restart X1 Search.

Note: There may be other symptoms present. These are the symptoms most reported at this time.

We also recommend excluding the following directories:

C:\Program Files\X1 Search\
C:\Program Files (x86)\X1 Search\
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\X1 Search (This is where the index files are stored by default)
C:\ProgramData\X1 Search

Note: "username" would be your Windows username profile folder on that computer.
