We've recently seen a few reports of lost indexes and other indexing anomalies that tie back to interference from backup tools and solutions such as Carbonite, CrashPlan, and others. These products can grab hold of X1's index files when X1 needs them and block our access to them. If that happens, the following may occur:
- X1 assumes it has lost the indexes and starts to rebuild the indexes over at its first opportunity.
- X1 will attempt to update the index and will get stuck while indexing. You may notice the percentage of indexing not moving.
- X1 will show an index last update on a particular date each time you restart your machine.
Note: There may be other symptoms present but these are the symptoms most reported at this time.
We recommend excluding the following directories:
C:\Program Files\X1 Search\
C:\Program Files (x86)\X1 Search\
C:\Users\"username"\AppData\Local\X1 Search (This is where the indexes are stored by default)
Note: "username" would be your username folder on that computer.
